The Leadenhall Building, also known as ‘The Cheesegrater’, is a commercial skyscraper located in the heart of the City of London at 122 Leadenhall Street and designed by world renowned architects Rogers, Stirk, Harbour & Partners. The Leadenhall Building stands at 224m (735 ft) and extends to over 600,000 sq. ft across 45 floors of office and communal space.
WIG started working with British Land in the later stages of the construction project with a remit of ensuring the tenants and visitors would have access to the best mobile service in the City.
The complex nature of The Leadenhall Building created several design challenges due to the use of modern construction materials which, without the product expertise, would result in poor coverage and not spots throughout the building particularly at the higher levels of the building. WIG’s experienced team of engineers undertook an extensive technical design process working closely with the technical team at British Land along with Telefonica O2, as the anchor network MNO, to create a bespoke, high capacity design based on a DAS architecture that delivered seamless and reliable coverage throughout the building.
Following initial deployment, the team at Leadenhall Building have benefited from a trusted lifecycle partner in WIG who continue to provide real time network monitoring and maintenance to ensure optimum infrastructure performance.
In addition to this WIG has invested significant capital into the development of DAS to ensure that key network elements are ready to support next generation technologies and services, including 5G to ensure that The Leadenhall Building benefit from first class connectivity, all of which have contributed to this iconic building achieving Platinum status Wired Certification.
